Albion College head football coach, Dustin Beurer, is stepping down after four seasons at the helm of the program. Beurer has accepted the head coach position at Division II Northwood University in Midland, Michigan.
Through four seasons leading the Britons, Beurer accumulated a career record of 29-5, two MIAA championships and a NCAA playoff appearance. His squad has finished in the top two spots of the league in each of his four seasons as head coach.
"We are pleased for Dustin and wish him all the best as he pursues this well-deserved opportunity to coach at the Division II level for Northwood University," said Albion interim president Joe Calvaruso "He has had tremendous success as a head coach for the Brits and has built a solid football program that gets better each year."
Since taking over in 2019, Beurer has mentored 25 first team All-MIAA performers, 23 second team All-MIAA picks, three MIAA offensive MVPs and one MIAA defensive MVP. Additionally, he has seen 10 Britons claim All-Region honors and three become All-Americans.
Also a testament to the culture he has built, three players have received the MIAA's Pete Schmidt Award during his tenure as head coach. The award is given to the top senior scholar athlete in the league, named after legendary Albion coach, Pete Schmidt.
"I want to personally thank Coach Beurer for his dedication not only to our football program, but the entire athletic department and to his alma mater, which he so deeply loves. We know the decision was not easy, but we are thrilled for him to have this opportunity that he absolutely deserves," said interim athletic director Andy Lawrence. "Dusty has graciously offered to serve as a consultant as we begin our immediate search for the next Head Football Coach and we are excited about the future of Albion Football."
Following the team's MIAA title in 2021, Beurer was named the AFCA Regional Coach of the Year.
"Albion College and the Albion community has provided my family and I more than I could have ever believed when I enrolled here in the fall of 2001," added Beurer. "I met my wife, life-long mentors, friendships, relationships and gained memories here. We have been fortunate enough to raise our young kids right by campus which has provided our boys with those same great memories and relationships as well. Albion turned me into a man and gave me a family. We are proud to have played a small role in the continued tradition of Albion College Football. This will always be home to the Beurer Family. Beurer, an '05 alum, took over after serving as an assistant on staff for the Britons for 11 seasons.
