Thomas More Posts Fourth Shutout in 31-0 Win at Saint Vincent

(LATROBE, Pa.) - The Thomas More College football team posted its fourth shutout of the season on today (Saturday, November 2, 2013) as it defeated Saint Vincent College, 31-0, in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at Chuck Noll Field in Latrobe, Pennsylvania.

With the win, the Saints improve to 7-1 overall and 6-1 in the PAC. The four shutouts are the most in a season in Thomas More history. The previous mark was three during the 1995 season. With the loss, the Bearcats fall to 0-8 overall and 0-6 in the PAC.

Thomas More led 10-0 after one quarter and 31-0 at halftime and after three quarters.

The Saints took a 7-0 lead with 12:36 to play in the first quarter when sophomore quarterback Jensen Gebhardt (Kings Mills, Ohio/Kings) connected on a 46-yard touchdown pass to junior wide receiver Ryan Winkler (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) and senior place kicker Tim Gormly, Jr. (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) added the point-after-attempt.

Thomas More increased the lead to 10-0 when sophomore place kicker Tommy Budke (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) made a 30-yard field goal with 2:29 to play in the first quarter.

Winkler caught a 40-yard touchdown pass from Gebhardt and Gormly added the PAC and the Saints extended the lead to 17-0 with 14:51 to play in the second quarter.

Thomas More extended the lead to 24-0 with 10:09 to play in the first half when sophomore tight end Cody Hinkel (Eminence, Ky./Henry County) scored on a five-yard touchdown pass from Gebhardt and Gormly added the PAT.

Junior running back Domonique Hayden (Lexington, Ky./Lexington Christian Academy) scored on a seven-yard touchdown run and Gormly added the PAT with 3:14 to play in the second quarter and the Saints led 31-0.

Thomas More out-gained Saint Vincent 351 yards (159 rushing, 192 passing) to 149 yards (71 rushing, 78 passing).

Gebhardt was 13-of-23 passing for 178 yards and three touchdowns. Hayden had 29 carries for 123 yards and added two catches for 30 yards. Winkler had four catches for 88 yards and two touchdown, while Hinkel had three catches for 28 yards and sophomore wide receiver Goose Cohorn (Independence, Ky./Dixie Heights) had three catches for 27 yards.

Junior defensive end Erick Butler (Eminence, Ky./Henry County) led the defense with seven tackles (five solo, two assisted), including two sacks for a loss of 13 yards. Senior defensive back Adam Rauch (Yorkville, Ky./East Central) had seven tackles (four solo, three assisted), while freshman linebacker Austin Copeland (Cincinnati, Ohio/Kings) had six tackles (three solo, three assisted and one forced fumble, senior defensive lineman Tyler Combs (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands) had five tackles (four solo, one assisted), including three tackles for a loss and one sack and senior linebacker Alex Taylor (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) had five tackles (two solo, three assisted).

The Saints will close out the home portion of their schedule next Saturday (November 9) when they host Bethany College at 1 p.m. at The Bank of Kentucky Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
