Cohorn Sets Career Record in Saints' 64-7 Win Over Grove City

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – Junior wide receiver Goose Cohorn (Independence, Ky./Dixie Heights) set the Thomas More College career receiving touchdown record today (Saturday, October 25 ) as he led the Saints to a 64-7 win over Grove City College in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at The Bank of Kentucky Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.

With the win, the Saints improve to 6-2 overall and 5-1 in the PAC.  With the loss, the Wolverines fall to 0-7 overall and 0-5 in the PAC. 

Thomas More never trailed in the game as it led 14-0 after one quarter, 41-0 at halftime and 48-7 after three quarters.

The Saints took a 7-0 lead with 9:36 to play in the first quarter when senior running back Domonique Hayden (Lexington, Ky./Lexington Christian Academy) scored on a 17-yard run and junior place kicker Tommy Budke (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) added the point-after-attempt.

Thomas More increased the lead to 14-0 when junior quarterback Jensen Gebhardt (Kings Mills, Ohio/Kings) connected on a 38-yard touchdown pass to Cohorn and Budke added the PAT with 3:04 to play in the opening quarter.  The touchdown was Cohorn's 19th career touchdown reception, breaking Chase Weber's (2003-06) mark of 18.  The touchdown pass was Gebhardt's 50th career touchdown pass tying him for most in career with offensive coordinator Trevor Stellman (2005-06, 08-09).

In the second quarter, Hayden scored on a 31-yard run and Budke's PAT failed as the Saints led 20-0 with 14:26 to play in the quarter.

Thomas More extended the lead to 27-0 with 8:50 to play in the first half when Hayden scored on a 56-yard run and Budke connected on the PAT.

Sophomore defensive lineman Dustin Mitchell (Burlington, Ky./Cooper) blocked a Wolverine punt and returned it 30-yards for a touchdown and Budke added the PAT as the Saints led 34-0 with 6:35 to play in the second quarter.

Thomas More took a 41-0 lead at halftime when Hayden scored on a one-yard run and Budke added the PAT with 3:43 to play in the first half.

Grove City cut the lead to 41-7 when Luke Brancato scored on a 13-yard pass from Tyler Keppel and Ryan Stewart added the PAT with 9:58 to play in the third quarter.

The Saints increased the lead to 48-7 when Hayden scored on a two-yard run and freshman place kicker Zach Bryant (Milford, Ohio/Milford) added the PAT.

Sophomore fullback Collin Justice (Park Hills, Ky./Beechwood) scored on a five-yard pass from freshman quarterback Brenan Kuntz (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) and Bryant added the PAT to extend the Saints' lead to 55-7 with 14:34 to play in the game.

Thomas More had a team safety with 10:14 to play in the game to increase the lead to 57-7.

The Saints closed out the scoring with 9:53 to play in the fourth quarter when freshman wide receiver Daylin Garland II (Newport, Ky./Newport) scored on a 35-yard pass from Kuntz and Bryant added the PAT for the final score of 64-7.

Thomas More out-gained Grove City 625 yards (309 rushing/316 passing) to 195 yards (61 rushing/134 passing).

Gebhardt finished the game 12-of-16 passing for 235 yards and one touchdown, while Kuntz was five-of-six passing for 81 yards and two touchdowns.  Hayden had 21 carries for 174 yards and a Thomas More single-game record tying five touchdowns and freshman running back CT Tarrant (Pittsburgh, Pa./Hamilton (Ohio)) had six carries for 63 yards.  Senior wide receiver Ryan Winkler (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) had five catches for 82 yards, while Cohorn finished the game with three catches for 57 yards and one touchdown.

35 different Saints registered at least one tackle in the game, while freshman defensive back Johnny Lammers (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) led the team in tackles with six (three solo, three assisted).  Senior linebacker Jake Fishburn (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) finished with five tackles (two solo, three assisted), including one tackle for a loss and one forced fumble and freshman defensive end Jacob Mitchell (Calhoun, Ga./Gordan Central) had five tackles (three solo, two assisted), including a half tackle for a loss. 

Thomas More returns to action next Saturday (November 1) when it travels to Waynesburg, Pennsylvania to play Waynesburg University.  Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at Wiley Stadium.
