More news about: William Paterson

GLASSBORO, N.J. – Rowan (2-0, 1-0 NJAC) pulled away late from visiting William Paterson (1-1, 0-1 NJAC) for a 31-0 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) football victory Sept. 16.

The two sides traded three-and-outs until a missed 33-yard field goal by the Profs with 6:28 remaining in the opening quarter. Rowan was able to find paydirt on its next possession, capping a nine-play, 49-yard drive with a 14-yard pass by junior quarterback Dante Pinckney to junior wide receiver Jamel Smith. Junior Tyler Knighton kicked the extra point and the Profs owned a 7-0 edge with 39 seconds left in the first period.

Freshman defensive back Ra'Keem Bennett (Linden, N.J./Carteret) ended Rowan's next possession with an interception at the Pioneer-23 with 10:41 to play in the second quarter, and the teams entered the locker room separated by just seven points.

Rowan came up with the first big play of the game, a 59-yard Pinckney completion to senior wide receiver Zac Frantz to make it a 14-0 game with 8:46 on the clock in the third quarter.

Knighton's 25-yard field goal was good early in the fourth period (17-0, 14:00), and a three-yard Gawain Bragg carry made it a 24-0 Prof lead with 9:54 remaining. Junior wide receiver Dashown Waller later turned a short screen pass into a 47-yard score with 3:42 left to finish the scoring.

Junior quarterback James Waldron (Edison, N.J./Edison) finished 8-for-17 for 42 yards. Senior wide receiver Malcolm Robinson (Bayonne, N.J./Bayonne) caught two passes for 14 yards, while sophomore running back Cahsim Henry (Lindenwold, N.J./Lindenwold) carried four times for 10 yards while hauling in three passes for 14 yards.

Junior linebacker Charles Faulkner (Carteret, N.J./Carteret) made a team-best 14 tackles (1.0 TFL), sophomore defensive back Haneef Jennings (Hamilton, N.J./Hamilton West) collected 11 stops and freshman linebacker Taheem Jackson (East Orange, N.J./East Orange Campus) posted 10 tackles (1.0 TFL).

Pinckney went 17-for-27 for 258 yards, three touchdowns and an interception for Rowan. Bragg gained 51 yards and scored a TD on 16 rushing attempts, and Waller caught five passes for 91 yards and a score.

Senior defensive lineman Anthony Rizzolo led the Profs with eight tackles (1.0 TFL, 0.5 sack), and junior defensive lineman Chris Henchy added seven stops (1.5 TFL, 1.0 sack).
