GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart College Head Football Coach Kevin DeWall '00 has begun to round out his coaching staff for the 2018 season. He recently announced that Greg Hadley and Art Garvey '13 will join the Statesmen while Mike Green '14 will get a new responsibility.
 
Hadley will serve as the team's director of player development and coach the defensive backs. Garvey returns to his alma mater to serve as the run game coordinator. Green will serve as Hobart's academic success coordinator and continue to coach the offensive line.
 
"Greg and Art will be great additions to our football family and our already strong coaching staff," DeWall says. "They are men of high character who are committed to mentoring and educating our student-athletes. As we look to develop and support our players into continual improvement as students, athletes, and citizens, I'm confident that Greg, Art, and our entire coaching staff will serve as great leaders and add value for our young men and our campus community."
 
Hadley spent the past three seasons at Endicott College, serving as the Gulls' defensive coordinator and strength and conditioning coach. His defenses ranked among the best in the nation in the red zone in 2015 (10th, .595) and 2016 (17th, .615).
 
Hadley began his coaching career at the University of Rhode Island as the linebackers coach in 2010. He spent the next two seasons coaching the linebackers and serving as the co-defensive coordinator at St. Lawrence University. Hadley coached the linebackers at Ithaca College in 2013 and 2014, helping the Bombers win back-to-back Empire 8 Championships. Hadley and his fellow coaches at Ithaca earned consecutive Empire 8 Coaching Staff of the Year awards, leading the Bombers to a two-year record of 16-7.
 
Hadley earned a bachelor's degree in studio art from Colgate University in 2010. He was a recipient of Colgate's Dr. Leo H. Speno Award which recognizes distinguished academic achievement and community service by a Raider student-athlete. Hadley earned a master's degree in educational leadership from St. Lawrence in 2012. He is also a USA Weightlifting Level 2 Advanced Sport Performance Coach.
 
A four-year varsity letterman, Hadley was a three-year starter at middle linebacker for Colgate, earning All-Patriot League honors as a junior and as a senior. He led the team in tackles in 2008 and 2009. Hadley led the Raiders to 29-16 record during his four seasons, including the 2008 Patriot League Championship and an appearance in the NCAA FCS Playoffs.
 
Garvey also spent the past three seasons at Endicott, coaching the offensive line and coordinating the run game. He mentored six Gulls who earned all-conference honors. Garvey moved to Endicott after spending one season as the offensive line coach at Shenandoah University. He oversaw a line that ranked 14th in the nation in sacks allowed per game (0.8) and helped the Hornets rank 20th in the nation in rushing yards per game (248.0). The native of East Aurora began his coaching career as the assistant offensive line coach for the Statesmen in 2013. Hobart ranked in the top 30 in the nation that season in both rushing offense (27th, 238.2 yds/g) and sacks allowed (24th, 0.82). Garvey and the rest of Hobart's coaches were voted the 2013 Liberty League Coaching Staff of the Year.
 
Garvey graduated from Hobart in 2013 with a bachelor's degree in environmental studies.
 
A 2012 D3football.com third team All-American, Garvey played left guard for Hobart, serving as a team captain as a senior. He helped the Statesmen lead the Liberty League in total offense (414.3), clearing the way for the nation's No. 26 rushing offense (237.2 yds/g) while ranking 10th in the nation in sacks allowed (0.62/g). A three-year starter, Garvey was twice named to the All-Liberty League teams, including first team recognition in 2012. Hobart was 30-10 during his playing career, winning two Liberty League Championships with two NCAA playoff appearances.
 
Green has coached at his alma mater since graduating with a bachelor's degree in mathematics in 2014. A 2013 D3football.com third team All-American and a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-American, Green has coached 13 all-conference selections and two All-Americans.
 
Hobart was 7-3 in the fall, posting a 3-2 Liberty League record. The Statesmen earned 22 Liberty League postseason awards, including the Offensive Player of the Year, the Special Teams Player of the Year and 10 first team selections.
