Despite 28 second half points, the Pacific University football team dropped a 45-28 decision to host Cal Lutheran on Saturday night.
The Boxers (0-3) trailed 38-0 at halftime before a promising second half where they outscored the host Kingsmen by a 28-7 margin in the final 30 minutes.
Pacific running backs Kash Taylor (8 carries, 96 yards and two touchdowns) and Josh Harris (20 carries, 150 yards and a touchdown) led the Boxers in the loss. Quarterback Nick Bower completed 10 of 25 passes for 132 yards and a touchdown.
Cal Lutheran (1-1) scored on its first six drives including five touchdowns as quarterback Cesar De Leon tied a Kingsmen school record with six touchdown passes, completing 22 of 34 passes for 343 yards in the win. He found 10-different receivers in the win including Cameron Jones and Josh Ketcher, who each had two touchdown receptions in the win.
Harris scored on a 23-yard touchdown run to put Pacific on the scoreboard on its second drive of the second half. It was his third touchdown of the young season and his second-straight 100+ yard game on the ground.
Pacific scored a touchdown on its final three drives of the contest, including a pair of touchdown runs by Taylor and an 88-yard touchdown pass from Bower to Kobe Williams.
Despite the loss, Pacific senior punter Dillon Savage had seven punts for an average of 43.1 yards per kick and a long of 51.
The Boxers will be idle, next week, before they will host Linfield on Saturday, October 5 at 1 p.m. in the Northwest Conference opener for both teams.
