Husson Football Tames Bulldogs, 42-14

BANGOR, Maine - The Husson University football team continued their dominance against teams in the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) on Friday night as the Eagles defeated the Dean College Bulldogs, 42-14, in non-conference action at the Dr. John W. Winkin Sports Complex. With the victory, the Eagles have now won 22 straight games versus ECFC schools and are 2-1 on the season while the Bulldogs drop to 1-2. 

FOR HUSSON: 

  • Nic Visser went 14-for-24 with three touchdowns for 229 yards including an 80 yard score with Jon Bell. 

  • Garrett Poussard rushed 27 times for 176 yards and three scores. 

  • Shawn Noel, Jr. carried the ball 18 times for 85 yards and caught two passes for 52 yards.

  • Bell had five catches for 106 yards and two touchdowns. Those are the first collegiate touchdowns for Bell.

  • Tyler Halls caught four passes for 42 yards to become the programs all-time career leader in receiving yards with 1671. The previous career mark was 1666 held by Kyle Gaudet '19

  • Wenston Dinizio had one catch for eight yards and it was his first collegiate touchdown. 

  • Josh Ladipo and Evan Briggs each had an interception. 

  • Tucker Buzzell recorded ten tackles and nine were solo.

  • David Redmond and Derek Barden each had a sack.

FOR DEAN: 

  • David Curry went 18-for-37 for 249 yards and threw two interceptions. He also rushed the ball ten times for 26 yards and a score.

  • Errol Breaux had four rushes for ten yards and a score.

  • Quintus Reid had six catches for 108 yards. 

  • Tyzohn Poole with nine total tackles while Keontay Maxwell had eight. 

GAME REVIEW: 

Husson didn't take long to get the first points on the board  with an 11 play drive for 65 yards as Poussard scored on a 9-yard carry and Eagled led, 7-0. Later in the first quarter, the Eagles would double the lead as Visser and Bell connected for an 80 yard score and made it 14-0 Husson after one quarter of action.

First play of the second quarter saw the Bulldogs score on a one yard run from Curry but the Eagles quickly responded with Visser finding Dinizio for his first collegiate touchdown to make it 21-7 Husson. 

The last drive of the second quarter and the first drive of the third quarter saw something in common as both were capped off by Poussard scoring on a rushing touchdown as it was 35-7 before Dean would get their second touchdown of the game as it was 35-14 after three.

Bell and Visser would connect again early in the fourth quarter as the Eagles pulled away with the 42-14 victory. 

TEAM STATS:

The Eagles had 553 yards of total offense while Dean had 316.

Homecoming game is next for Husson football as they host Springfield College for the first time at the Winkin Sports Complex since 2012. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 25th.
