Game Summary

  • First Quarter: Johns Hopkins opened with the longest drive of the game, covering 87 yards in 17 plays. The Blue Jays moved methodically up the field with Stevens connecting with Wellman for a seven-yard touchdown. After a failed fourth-down conversion on Gettysburg's first possession, Johns Hopkins took advantage of the short field and Stevens tacked on another touchdown throw to Revere for a 14-0 lead.
  • Second Quarter: Johns Hopkins scored two more touchdowns on its first two drives of the second quarter, although sophomore nose tackle Chris Singleton, Jr. (Catonsville, Md./Georgetown Prep) knocked down an extra-point attempt to keep the score to 27-0. Kyle Battles connected on a 42-yard field goal to lift the Blue Jays ahead 30-0 at the half.
  • Third Quarter:  Gettysburg opened the second half by reaching midfield in short order, but Johns Hopkins posted back-to-back tackles in the backfield and an incomplete pass to force a punt. The visitors responded with a 42-yard catch by Wellman from Stevens for a 36-0 advantage. After forcing Gettysburg to kick out of its end zone and earning field position in the red zone after the punt went out-of-bounds, Johns Hopkins padded the lead in one play as Spencer Uggla dashed 20 yards for a touchdown with 5:12 left in the third quarter.
  • Fourth Quarter: Johns Hopkins scored its final touchdown following a mishandled snap on a punt attempt in Gettysburg territory. The Blue Jays covered the remaining 10 yards in one play as Bay Harvey connected with Artie Collins to set the final score with 10:38 remaining.

By the Numbers

  • Johns Hopkins out-gained Gettysburg 560-115. The Blue Jays totaled 164 yards on the ground and 396 yards in the air. Johns Hopkins came into the game as the national leader in passing yardage.
