GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) selected Grove City College senior wide receiver Cody Gustafson (Newburg, Pa./Shippensburg) as a First Team Division III All-American in recognition of his performance throughout the 2021 season.

A D3football.com All-Region First Team selection and the Presidents' Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year, Gustafson caught 97 passes for 1,420 yards and 14 touchdowns in 11 games this season for Grove City. Gustafson currently leads all active NCAA players with 5,305 career receiving yards and his 341 career receptions are No. 2 among active college football players. 

He capped his career November 20 by recording 13 catches for 232 yards and four touchdowns in Grove City's 49-7 win over Utica in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Scotty Whitelaw Bowl. 

Gustafson earned First Team All-Presidents' Athletic Conference honor for the fourth straight season. He is a two-time College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-American in football and recently earned Academic All-District honors for the fall 2021 season. 

Gustafson has also been selected as a semifinalist for the prestigious Gagliardi Trophy, which recognizes excellence in athletics, academics and community service in NCAA Division III football. 

He is Grove City's second AFCA All-American in the last three seasons. Running back Wesley Schools earned Second Team AFCA All-America in 2019. 

Grove City finished 8-3 overall this season and 6-3 in the conference. The Wolverines' win over Utica marked the program's third ECAC bowl victory since 2018.

The AFCA's Division III All-America Selection Committee is made up of head coaches representing each conference from each of the AFCA's seven districts, one of whom serves as a district chairman, along with another head coach who serves as the chairman of the selection committee.
