Seventeen-Point Comeback Pushes Titans Past Blue Devils

More news about: UW-Oshkosh

MENOMONIE, Wis.- The UW-Oshkosh football team broke four school records during a 17-point comeback to beat UW-Stout 48-46 in double overtime on Saturday at Don and Nona Williams Stadium.

The comeback pushes the Titans (3-2, 1-1 WIAC) winning streak against the Blue Devils (2-3, 0-2 WIAC) to 13 games in a row.

Two Titans broke four long-standing single game school records in the double-overtime thriller. Kobe Berghammer (Sr. • Clayton) set the program pass completion (42), passing yards (466) and all-purpose yards (571) records. He broke Nick Wara's 21-year old record of 37 completions from Nov. 16, 2002 at UW-Whitewater, Brian Tomalak's 26-year old record of 460 passing yards from a Sept. 7, 1997 home game against UW-River Falls and Wara's 20-yard old record of 499 all-purpose yards from Nov. 15, 2003 against UW-Eau Claire at home. The longest-standing broken record of Saturday however, went to Trae Tetzlaff (Jr. • Waukesha) with 17 receptions. John Dettman last set the single-game reception record 42 years ago on Oct. 10, 1981 in a road matchup at UW-River Falls.

Berghammer completed 42 of his 52 passing attempts for 466 yards and five touchdowns, and also rushed for 105 yards and a touchdown. His 466 passing yards was the most thrown in a single game by a Titan quarterback dating back to the 1998 season.

Tetzlaff led the Titans with 17 receptions for 155 yards, including a 25 yard touchdown reception in the first quarter.

Defensively, Carson Raddatz (Jr. • Fond du Lac) led the Titans with eight tackles, and Avery Martell (Jr. • Oshkosh) had one sack.

Matt Palmiento scored first for the Blue Devils with an 11-yard touchdown run after an Oshkosh fumble set them up with good field position. He reached the end zone again on a 2-yard rush on the next drive to give the Blue Devils a quick 14-0 lead.

After a 10-yard rushing touchdown from Berghammer on the next drive, the Titans gave up a kick return touchdown to the Blue Devils.

Berghammer then found Tetzlaff for a 25-yard touchdown reception to end the first quarter.

In the second quarter, a field goal and a five yard touchdown pass from Mitch Waechter to Ben Karls gave the Blue Devils a 30-13 lead.

Londyn Little (So. • Columbia, Ill.), who ended the day with 60 yards on five receptions, caught a 15 yard touchdown pass with 25 seconds remaining in the first half to cut the deficit to 30-20.

The Titans scored first in the second half on an 11 yard touchdown pass from Berghammer to Little, his second touchdown reception of the day.

The Blue Devils answered with a touchdown of their own before the Titans scored on an 11-yard touchdown pass to Cade Oiler (Jr. • Watertown) and kicked a field goal with under two minutes remaining to send the game to overtime.

Both teams kicked field goals in the first overtime, but Oshkosh was able to pull away in the second after a 16-yard touchdown pass to Kaio Harn (Sr. • New London) and a successful two-point conversion pass from Berghammer to Little.

Stout got the ball back one more time and scored on a 6-yard rush from Waechter, but the Titans were able to force an incompletion on the two-point attempt.

The Titans will return to action on Saturday (Oct. 14) at 1:05 p.m. to take on UW-Eau Claire at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.
