#9 RMC Football Improves to 10-0 with 10th Straight Win over H-SC

ASHLAND, Va. – Senior running back Nick Hale (Vinton, Va./William Byrd) rushed for a career-high 154 yards, part of 516 yards of total offense, as No. 9 Randolph-Macon scored touchdowns on each of its first seven possessions in defeating Hampden-Sydney 49-10 on Senior Day for its 10th straight win in the series in the 128th edition of The Game

How it Happened:

  • Senior Cade Jones (Wilmington, N.C./Eugene Ashley) picked off a pass on the Tigers' first possession, giving the Yellow Jackets the ball on their own 39. RMC used seven plays to move 61 yards, as senior tailback Kwesi Clarke (Reigelwood, N.C./North Brunswick) found the end zone from six yards out to give the Yellow Jackets a 7-0 lead with 9:30 left in the first period.
  • An HSC punt gave RMC the ball on its 17. The Yellow Jackets only needed six plays to go 83 yards, as Hale scored on a 39-yard TD run to make it 14-0 with 3:25 remaining in the first quarter.
  • Early in the second quarter, senior defensive tackle Wade Grubbs (Providence Forge, Va./New Kent) sacked the Tiger quarterback on fourth down as RMC took over on its 36. Clarke scored from five yards out to extend the lead to 21-0 with 10:07 left in the second period.
  • Senior linebacker Tony Skinner (Spotsylvania, Va./Riverbend) snagged an interception and gave the Yellow Jackets the ball on the HSC 20. Senior quarterback Drew Campanale (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) hit sophomore tight end Andrew Lloyd (Christiansburg, Va./Christiansburg) with an eight-yard scoring toss to make it 28-0 midway through the second quarter.
  • Following a Tiger punt, Campanale extended a third-down play and found senior David Wallis (Cedar Point, N.C./Croatan) in the end zone from 15 yards out to make it 35-0 with one minute left until halftime.
  • HSC used a roughing the passer penalty to nail a 41-yard field goal and make it 35-3 at intermission.
  • RMC took the second half kickoff the drove 79 yards in seven plays, with Campanale hitting Clarke on a 15-yard scoring strike as the lead grew to 42-3 with 11:40 left in the third period.
  • After the Tigers scored with 6:30 remaining, Campanale hit Wallis on a 74-yard scoring pass to make it 49-10 with 6:10 left, which would be the final score.

By The Numbers:

  • RMC ran the ball 42 times for 306 yards and three touchdowns. Hale rushed 11 times for 154 yards and one score. Sophomore running back Cameron Chatmon (Wake, N.C./Green Level) had 14 carries for 90 yards. Clarke carried seven times for 45 yards and two TDs.
  • Campanale completed 11 of 14 passes for 204 yards and four touchdowns. Wallis had three catches for 95 yards and two scores.
  • The RMC defense held HSC to 32 yards rushing. Junior cornerback Brandon Evans (Frederick, Md./Frederick) had nine tackles, one tackle for loss and one pass breakup. Senior linebacker Jackson Deaver (Fayetteville, N.C./Terry Sanford) registered eight tackles, while Grubbs had seven stops, 3.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 quarterback sacks.

For The Record:

  • RMC recorded its second straight 10-0 regular season, a program record for wins in the regular season.
  • The Yellow Jackets have scored at least 30 points in each of their past 28 games, the longest stretch in program history.
  • RMC is now 57-60-11 all-time vs. HSC. The Yellow Jackets have outscored the Tigers 197-44 over the past five meetings. Pedro Arruza is 13-7 vs. HSC.
  • The Yellow Jackets converted 9 of 12 third downs (.750). RMC entered the game as the national leader in third down conversions at .596.
