APPLETON, Wis. -- Two new faces have joined the Lawrence University football coaching staff, head coach Tony Aker announced today.
    Tom Haughey is the new run game coordinator and offensive line coach, and Joe Riordan will serve as special teams coordinator and defensive backs coach. Both coaches come to Lawrence with extensive college coaching experience under their belts.
    Riordan has served as the defensive backs coach and co-special teams coordinator at Wabash College since 2018. 
    "Joe is a veteran coach with experience at multiple levels of football," Aker said. "Joe is a tremendous teacher of the game, passionate about the development of the young people he coaches and has a track record of developing high-achieving athletes on the field and in the weight room. We're thrilled to welcome Coach Riordan, his wife, Sarah, and his sons, Miller and Morris, to our football family."
    Haughey comes to Lawrence from Susquehanna University, where he has worked as the tight ends and running backs coach since 2022. 
    "Coach Haughey has a championship pedigree, an exceptional reputation as a recruiter and is going to be a phenomenal leader of our offensive line," Aker said. "Tom possesses the expertise and mindset we believe will allow our unit up front to take a great leap forward. We're beyond excited to welcome Coach Haughey to our football family."
    A 2011 graduate of Ball State University with a bachelor's degree in sports administration, Riordan was part of the coaching staff that led Wabash to a pair of North Coast Athletic Conference championships. Riordan also served as defensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator at Anderson University in 2017 and was the special teams coordinator and defensive backs coach at Webber International University in 2016. 
    Haughey was part of the coaching staff at Susquehanna that won the 2022 Centennial Conference championship and the River Hawks also took the 2023 Landmark Conference title. Haughey coached three all-conference players in his two seasons at Susquehanna. Haughey also spent a season a season as a graduate assistant at Ohio Dominican University and a season as a graduate assistant at Castleton University. 
    Haughey was a four-year starter on the offensive line at Susquehanna and an all-confefence selection for the River Hawks. A 2018 graduate of Susquehanna with a bachelor's degree in early childhood education, he earned a master's degree from Castleton in athletic leadership in 2022.
    Lawrence opens its 2024 season on Sept. 7 when the Vikings travel to Martin Luther College for a nonconference game.
