BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College football team (3-1, 3-0 USA South) scored 28 first quarter points and 35 total points in the first half en route to a 42-9 win over Greensboro College (1-4, 1-2 USAS) on Homecoming Saturday on the BC campus.
Brevard struck quickly for four touchdowns in the first quarter alone, finding the end zone twice more in the second and fourth quarters for a six-touchdown offensive performance. BC's defense and special teams added two turnovers and a blocked field goal for a balanced, all-around performance.
Junior quarterback Ethan Beamish went 18-for-25 for 310 yards and four touchdowns, marking his third-straight game with four or more touchdown passes and his second-consecutive contest throwing for over 300 yards.
Senior running back Jadien Deaton turned in his second 100-plus yard rushing performance of his Tornado career with 109 yards on 10 carries, which included a 70-yard touchdown dash. Chancellor Lee-Parker found the end zone for the fourth game in a row, compiling 62 rushing yards with a 16-yard touchdown that brought his season total to seven rushing TDs in four games.
Graduate wide receiver Zackary Orr broke Brevard College's all-time career receiving yards record, surpassing BC alum Bubba Craven after a 122 yard performance on Saturday brought his career total to 1,591 yards through the air. Orr scored twice for the second game in a row, as the freshman has amassed 535 receiving yards in just four contests this year.
Cooper Hogan added three catches for 78 yards and a 64-yard touchdown catch, while Reggie Taylor II caught a pair of passes for 45 yards and a 31-yard strike. Joseph Cuellar, Lee-Parker, George Rennie and Jack Spotz also all recorded receptions in Saturday's contest.
Adam Chaney and Baylee Ramey led the BC defense with eight tackles apiece, while James Woods logging six solo tackles and an interception. Baylee Ramey totaled two and a half tackles-for-loss and his brother Jordan Ramey added five tackles and two TFL. Robert Dorsey once again made a big impact on the game with one and a half QB sacks and a strip-sack forced fumble. Obadiah Grimes recovered Dorsey's FF and Chaney blocked a field goal on special teams.
Hugo Taylor went 6-for-6 on point-after-tries but did not convert a field goal on two attempts. Samuel Vargas pinned the Pride inside the 20 once, while he and Nicholas Acus split up the kickoff duties for BC's special teams.
Beamish hit Hogan for a 64-yard touchdown on BC's first offensive possession of the game. After the Tornadks forced a three-and-out, the Simpsonville, South Carolina QB hit Orr for a 20-yard touchdown reception, doubling Brevard's lead 14-0.
Greensboro decided to go for it inside the red zone on its ensuing possession, and a combined sack from B. Ramey and Dorsey halted the Pride drive. Deaton made the visitors regret that decision with his 70-yard touchdown dash that made it a 21-0 lead for the Tornados at the 2:27 mark in the first quarter.
Another fourth down try for the Pride went unsuccessful and it took Brevard just one play to find the end zone once more, as Beamish found Orr for a 56-yard touchdown strike that brought the Brevard lead up to a commanding 28-0 margin.
Greensboro broke into the scoring column early in the second quarter on a 21-yard field goal that cut the deficit to 25. That would not remain for long, however, as Lee-Parker darted in for a 16-yard score with 9:12 left in the second quarter and BC holding a 35-3 lead. Brevard took that edge into the halftime locker room.
Each side missed field goals on lengthy drives, highlighting a scoreless third period of action. After BC's defense forced Greensboro to punt on its first drive of the fourth quarter, Beamish connected for his fourth touchdown pass of the contest when Taylor II brought in a 31-yard touchdown pass. Greensboro was able to finally find the end zone on its last possession of the contest, but the Tornados comfortably wrapped up the 42-9 triumph.
Brevard held a 469-287 edge in total offense, with the Tornados maintaining a 310-176 margin in the passing game. BC's defense forced Greensboro to punt six times while also forcing two turnovers, blocking a kick, and stifling GC on both third down (3-for-14) and fourth down (0-for-2).
BC returns to play next Saturday, October 19 at 3:30 p.m. when LaGrange College comes to town.
