BW Football Shuts Out Marietta in Hall of Fame and Homecoming Game

BEREA, Ohio – In a day filled with alumni and friends, the Baldwin University football team shutout Marietta College in a Hall of Fame, Homecoming and Ohio Athletic Conference game by a final score of 38-0 on the Tressel Field inside the George Finnie Stadium.

BW (6-1, 4-1 OAC), who posted its first shutout since the 2023 season when it blanked Otterbein University 24-0 in Westerville, improved to 39-9 in the all-time series with Marietta (3-4, 2-4 OAC).  The Yellow Jackets have now won 14 of the 18 games over the Pioneers.

Freshman running back Boston Mulinix (North Benton/West Brach) was named the was named Frank Ropollo Offensive Player of the Game and junior defensive back TJ Gibbons (Willoughby/Lake Catholic) was named the Dick Miller Defensive Player of the Game.

During the break between the first and second quarters, the 2025 Class of the Athletics Alumni Hall of Fame was introduced to the crowd at Finnie Stadium. Three of the six inductees represented the football program: Scott Barwidi (Class of 2000), Phil Medvetz (Class of 1990), and Greg Nackley (Class of 1970).

BW Leaders

  • Junior All-OAC quarterback Charlie Bubonics (Solon) completed 12-of-24 passes for 133 yards with one touchdown
  • Junior Academic All-OAC running back George Linberger (Barberton/St. Vincent-St. Mary) rushed for a game-high 118 yards, which was his seventh straight 100= yard game, on 20 carries with one touchdown.
  • Junior Academic All-OAC wide receiver Xavier Balson (North Olmsted) caught seven passes for 48 yards with one touchdown
  • Defensively, senior All-OAC linebacker Dom Tromba (Painesville/Riverside) and junior Academic All-OAC linebacker Nolan Hartsel (Lodi/Northwestern), who is this week's OAC Defensive Player of the Week, had eight tackles

Marietta Leaders

  • Sophomore quarterback Joe Tenta completed 11-of-21 passes for 70 yards with three interceptions
  • Senior All-OAC running back Vante' Hodges rushed for 72 yards on 19 carries
  • Senior wide receiver John Sierputowski caught eight passes for 50 yards
  • Defensively, senior All-OAC linebacker Brady McManaway had a game-high 13 stops

After two consecutive home games, the Yellow Jackets will hit the road for their next two contests, beginning on Saturday, November 1, when they travel to New Concord for an OAC game against Muskingum University on Edgar A. Sherman Field inside McConagha at 1:30 p.m.
