Team of the Week

Games of Oct. 14-15, 2006

Offense

QB Jordan Neal , Sr., Hardin-Simmons
Neal recovered from maybe his worst career game with probably his best as he hit 17 of 18 passes for 295 yards and five touchdowns. He also added a touchdown run despite playing only the first half and one series into the second half. He had scoring passes of 9, 22, 26, 28 and 58.

OL Andrew O'Neil, Jake Lucey, John Kemper, James Holan, Rob McCullough, Linfield
On 74 plays, the Linfield offense only lost eight yards against Southern Oregon. The offensive line didn't allow a sack on 47 pass attempts which led to 443 yards, five touchdowns and no interceptions. On the ground, the Wildcats gained four yards a carry on 27 attempts.  Seven of the eight yards for a loss came in the second half.

RB Justin Beaver, Jr., UW-Whitewater
Beaver rushed for a school record 286 yards against No. 6 UW-La Crosse. He carried the ball 38 times for 7.3 yards a rush before his 39th carry got him 10 more yards and a broken collarbone.

RB Dante Daniels, Sr., Monmouth
Daniels carried 36 times for 247 yards and two touchdowns as Monmouth handed Ripon its first league loss of the season. Daniels' 65-yard TD run in the fourth quarter pushed MC's lead to 24-7 en route to a 24-14 win. It was his fourth 200-yard rushing game of the season.

WR/RB Micah Rushing, Sr., Guilford
Rushing entered Saturday's game ranked fifth among NCAA Division III receptions per game leaders (9.0), but lined up at tailback and rushed for a career-high 150 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries. His performance helped the Quakers to a 33-28 upset of previously unbeaten and eighth-ranked Bridgewater. Rushing also added four receptions for a game-high 80 yards.

WR Kyle Pearson, Sr., Luther
Pearson caught 15 passes for 216 yards and one touchdown in Luther's 30-27 loss to Buena Vista in overtime. Following a 47-yard field goal by Buena Vista in the extra period, Pearson caught two straight passes for 18 yards to put Luther on the 7-yard line before they missed a potential game-tying field goal.

WR Dustin Stewart, Sr., Hanover
Stewart caught a 99-yard touchdown pass as one of his two TDs in leading Hanover to a 32-14 win against Manchester. Stewart finished with five catches for 152 yards and two touchdowns. The catch ties an NCAA record held by many.

Defense

DL Matt Spangler, So., Adrian
Spangler helped Adrian hold Tri-State to 91 rushing yards -- 120 below its average -- in a 42-10 win against the Thunder. He recorded eight tackles (three solo), two sacks, two quarterback hurries, one forced fumble and one interception.

DL Dustin Hertel, Sr., DePauw
Hertel had nine tackles (seven solo), 2.5 tackles for a loss, two sacks and one forced fumble as DePauw held Rhodes to just 40 rushing yards on 29 attempts and only eight first downs.

DL Matt Frelich, Fr., Lawrence
Frelich made the key play in Lawrence's 8-6 win against Knox. After Knox went up 6-0 in the game, Frelich blocked the extra point, which was returned for two points by a teammate. His forced fumble was also recovered by Lawrence. Frelich finished the day with 11 tackles (eight solo), two tackles for a loss and one sack.

DL Andy Purdie, Sr., Hobart
Purdie led a flood of Statesmen into the Merchant Marine backfield, registering a team-high eight tackles (four solo), including a career-high 3.5 sacks.

LB Jairus Kendle, Sr., Kean
Kendle had his best defensive game of the year, making two key sacks, both resulting in fumbles, including a fourth-quarter fumble that would result in the eventual game-winning touchdown three plays later. The senior added eight tackles and two pass break-ups, including deflecting a pass on the goal-line during Montclair's last possession of the game.

LB Evan Hoffman, Sr., Hobart
Hoffman and the rest of the Hobart defense kept the Merchant Marine quarterback on the run all afternoon, sacking him 10 times. The Statesmen limited the Mariners' offense to just a single touchdown through the first three quarter. Merchant Marine managed just 48 yards rushing for the game, including minus-12 in the third quarter. Hoffman finished with seven solo tackles, which included three sacks for a loss of 23 yards.

LB Mark Carlisle, Sr., Thomas More
Carlisle finished with 18 tackles (nine solo) in Thomas More's 13-7 win against Frostburg State. His tackle for loss, forced fumble and fumble recovery at Thomas More's 17-yard line kept the Bobcats from possibly taking a two-possession lead.

LB Kevin Flike, Sr., Union
Flike made a season-high 16 tackles, including 13 solo, as Union defeated Franklin and Marshall, 28-21 Saturday. Flike also had two tackles for losses and a fumble recovery for Union.

DB Anthony Hayes, Sr., Shenandoah
Hayes set a school record with a 95-yard interception return for a touchdown on the final play of the Hornets 36-10 win at Greensboro. He set up the first score of the game by forcing a fumble on a punt return and recovering the ball on the Pride 6. He also had two kickoff returns for 67 yards.

DB Cody Deaver, Sr., Hardin-Simmons
Deaver changed the game with two big forced turnovers. He had a big forced fumble that he recovered to set the Cowboys up at the 12-yard line just a minute before half. The Cowboys scored and then he intercepted a pass on the next drive and gave the Cowboys the ball back 18 seconds before half and the Cowboys hit a bomb to take it from 28-10 to 42-10. He added a career-best 10 tackles.

DB Bruce Baillargeon, Jr., UW-River Falls
Baillargeon helped lead a Falcon defense in a solid game in the team's 20-17 win over UW-Stevens Point. He had nine solo and 13 total tackles to lead the Falcons. He broke up a pass, forced a fumble and recovered a fumble.

Special teams

RET Jeff Beck, Jr., Cortland State
Beck's 61-yard kick return with under two minutes left in the first half set up a Cortland TD that gave the Red Dragons a 28-14 lead at Western Connecticut State. Beck also returned a kickoff 37 yards and returned an interception 36 yards, finishing with 140 yards of returns in Cortland's 49-21 win.

K Chris Kemmerer, Sr., Buena Vista
Kemmerer made a career-long 47 yard field goal in overtime to win the game. It was the second week in a row that he hit a game-winner. He also averaged 45 yards on five punts, made field goals from 33 and 26 yards, and had three kickoffs for a touchback.

P Travis Frazier, Sr., Guilford
Frazier punted three times for a 46.0-yard average, forcing Bridgewater into an average starting field position at the 22-yard line. He also contributed nine points to Guilford's 33-28 win over eighth-ranked Eagles. He made a pair of 37-yard field goals and made all three extra-point attempts.
