Huntingdon came up with the key road win, while Wartburg rolled to a win at Hope and higher seeds Mary Hardin-Baylor and UW-Whitewater won easily at home in the first round of the top-left bracket of the 2019 NCAA Division III playoffs.

Huntingdon snapped Berry's 22-game home winning streak and sent the No. 23 Vikings home in the first round of the playoffs with a 27-24 first-round road win. The Hawks went ahead in the third on a 22-yard pass to Garrett Headley, and held the lead until just over four minutes left to play when Gavin Gray found a wide open Zach Bush for an 11-yard score. On the very next drive, Michael Lambert found Headley for 56 yards to go up 27-24. Gray led the Vikings down the field on the next drive all the way to the Hawks' 35-yard line, but his next pass was intercepted by Dylan Powell to seal the win for Huntingdon.

Mary Hardin-Baylor jumped out to a 21-0 first-half lead and made it stand up in the second half as the Cru posted a 43-14 victory over Redlands. UMHB (11-0) stopped a fake punt on the first Bulldogs possession to take over at the Redlands' 44-yard line. Jase Hammack hit Jonel Reed with a two-yard touchdown pass eight plays later to give the Cru a 7-0 lead. A Redlands fumble set up another short field for UMHB and Hammack hit Gary Ruckman with a 13-yard scoring strike and 14-0 Cru lead with 2:38 left in the opening quarter. Hammack would cap another 44-yard drive with a 32-yard touchdown toss to Jaylan Jenkins as UMHB built a 21-0 lead. Redlands finishes its season at 9-2 as the program lost an opening round game to the Cru for the fourth time. It is UMHB's 16th consecutive trip to the Division III playoffs second round.

No. 7 ranked UW-Whitewater scored 28 first-half points Saturday afternoon on its way to a 35-10 triumph over Monmouth. The Warhawks (10-1 overall) advance to the second round, where they will face Wartburg. Official hosting assignments will be announced on Sunday by the NCAA. UW-Whitewater picked up 28 first downs and totaled 478 yards of offense, including 278 on the ground. The team also held the ball for nearly 39 minutes in the contest. Junior quarterback Max Meylor registered 183 yards and four touchdowns through the air and added 34 yards on the ground. Senior running back Jarrod Ware posted 20 carries for 110 yards, and junior running back Alex Peete rushed 16 times for 80 yards and one touchdown. Junior wide receiver Ryan Wisniewski collected six receptions for 67 yards and two scores.

Hope kicked a field goal on the opening drive of the game, but it was all Wartburg the rest of the way, as the Knights went on to a 41-3 win in first-round play at Holland, Michigan. Noah Dodd threw four touchdown passes and Bennett Goettsch ran for 124 yards on 10 carries in the win. Mason Opple was held to 102 yards on 18-for-27 passing and managed just 19 yards on 16 carries. Brandan Childs caught just three passes for Wartburg (10-1), but all three were for touchdowns. The Knights had just six third downs all day.
